From Jacqueline Leete, 11th Grade, Student Producer of Midsummer Night's Dream:
The Shakespeare Ensemble in collaboration with Maharishi School presents Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream this Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 at Spayde Theater in the MUM Library building. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 general admission.
When asked how he feels about the production, director, Steve White, says he's "very excited actually. I've never directed a high school play or anything resembling it. On one hand, there are some very talented young people (that does not mean trained--even Mozart had to take piano lessons) but, on the other hand, it was a nightmare of Homeric proportion to get everybody under the same roof at the same time because they are all very busy with DI, tennis, golf, etc." White says he chose A Midsummer Night's Dream because "I love it, along with The Tempest, and As You Like It. They give you great leeway in creative choices, especially Midsummer Night's Dream." White continues, "It's been a lovely experience with lovely young people who are much more 'together' than I ever dreamed of being at their age."
Executive Producer, Brendan Thomas, says "students at Maharishi School tend to be committed to a lot of extracurricular activities, given the number of students and the incredible track record of success in so many different activities. This is the first time in a decade that the school has been able to do a spring play at all! And that it happened this year speaks a lot to the commitment of the cast and crew."
