Bike Fest is Back!

What? Bike Fest is great family fun, and is one of Maharishi School’s most popular annual fundraisers.

Who participates? Students of every age, parents, families, friends… anyone who wants to support Maharishi School.
All preschool - 8th graders will participate and it will be optional for 9th-12th graders.
High school students who raise at least $100 are invited to hit the trails, enjoy the
outside air, and ride the beautiful 17-mile loop around Fairfield. Those 9-12th graders
who choose not to participate will attend their regularly scheduled classes.

When? Bike Fest will be held on Friday, October 4 at two different times.

  • Lower School students will ride Friday morning at 10 a.m. (They will return by 11:50am.)
  • Middle and Upper School students will ride on Friday afternoon at 12:45pm and return for afternoon meditation at 3pm.

Where? Bike Fest will originate at Maharishi School and spread out along Fairfield’s extensive bike trails. Preschoolers will ride or walk inside the vastu fence. K-2nd graders will ride, walk, or scooter in front of the school around the carpool line. 3rd-6th graders will ride 3-7 miles on the trails and the 7-12th graders will ride either 7 miles or the 17-mile loop.

Why? FUN AND FUNDS - Bike Fest is great fun, long-standing, annual tradition, and raises vital money for our Annual Fund. The students love Bike Fest and we invite all parents to come and enjoy this festive day.

FAMILY FUNDRAISING - Bike Fest is a wonderful way to meet your family’s $500/child fundraising obligation ($250/Kindergarten, $100/preschool).

PRIZES - Prize money will be awarded to the individual student in Lower School and in Middle School who raise the most funds. Classes who collectively raise the most money will be awarded special outings or parties. This event is about raising funds and fun.

NEW INCENTIVE FOR HIGH SCHOOLERS ONLY - 50% of all funds raised by 9-12th graders will be saved and applied towards their entire class' senior trip. This is a fantastic way for all students to begin their fundraising efforts for this required trip that takes place during their senior year. Again, one half of all monies each high school class raises will be allocated toward the senior trip for their entire class. (Yahoo! If it motivates more high school students to participate in Bike Fest, we'll try it again next year.)

How? Students reach out to people they know and ask them to sponsor their ride. The simplest and most common option is for a sponsor to make an up-front donation.
With this option, the student collects the donation immediately. Alternatively, a sponsor can pledge a certain amount for each mile the student rides. This could result in a larger donation, but it also requires the student to follow-up with the sponsor after the event to collect the donation.

Questions? If you have questions or would like help with fundraising ideas, please call the Development Office at 641.472.0094.
