Chamber Singers of Southeast Iowa:  Songs of Love, Lament, & Laughter

The Chamber Singers of Southeast Iowa will perform their Annual Spring Concert, "Love, Lament, and Laughter" soon!  The singers are based in Fairfield, Iowa, the home of Maharishi School.  The Chamber Singers of Southeast Iowa will present their annual spring concerts, “Love, Lament, & Laughter,” on Saturday and Sunday, June 3 and 4, at 7:30 p.m. (note time change) at the First Presbyterian Church, 200 South Main Street in Fairfield.

The Southeast Iowa Chamber Singers are an integral part of the cultural life of Fairfield, Iowa.  Fairfield is a thriving, diverse, and inclusive college town in southeast Iowa, and home to Maharishi School!The audience will be treated to a rich variety of springtime love songs descriptive of the many shades of love experienced in our lifetime—love of community, family, and each other, and especially romantic love. This exploration of timeless stories of the heart is punctuated with lively humor and the toe-tapping rhythms of contemporary works.

The program, all in English this year, ranges from madrigal mayhem to text settings of Shakespearean songs, folklore of the British Isles, and poetic texts, each offering a unique vantage point on life and feeling. With four-part to eight-part settings, the music provides a spring tide of song, from love lost to love regained, with plenty of musical merriment throughout.
