Middle School Defenestration Day

On September 10th, at 1:00pm in the Maharishi School Courtyard, Maharishi Middle School will host the annual “Defenestration Day”. "Defenestration" is the act of throwing something out of a window. The Middle School will throw devices designed to save plastic gallons of water from a two story fall.

The Defenestration project is part of the Project Based Learning curriculum practiced at the Middle School. Students perform difficult real life challenges. They publish papers (English), code computer applications (Math), and do original scientific and historical research.

The first project of each year is the Defenestration Project, which serves as a model for students to learn the process of project creation, refinement, and documentation. The purpose of the water bottle-drop project is to learn how the processes of drafting, feedback and testing are important parts of learning.
