Councilman Halley Encourages Students to Volunteer

City Councilman, Michael Halley, addressed Maharishi Upper School students Tuesday to share his experiences with volunteering. He encouraged students to get involved this summer in the many volunteer opportunities in Fairfield. Halley shared the concept of the “helper’s high,” a powerful uplifting experience that comes from doing good for others.

Students can volunteer through the Fairfield Volunteer Center at the Fairfield Public library. In addition to benefiting the community, volunteers will personally benefit through the “Hometown Heroes Rewards Program” which offers perks from Fairfield businesses for volunteer hours. To sign-up for the program go to http://www.ethicalmarkets.com/2011/04/30/fairfield-iowa-launching-its-hometown-hero-rewards/ More volunteer opportunities can be found at http://fairfieldvolunteercenter.org/

Maharishi School students have volunteered on many local projects including Habitat for Humanity, creating gardens for Sunnybrook Assisted Living, Fairfield Trails clean-up, and prairie restoration.
