Doubles Team Advances to State

The Maharishi School Girl's Tennis team finished another outstanding season with a record of 9 and 2. The Pioneers will be represented by Angela Sickler and Minna Mohammadi in the Class 1A state doubles tournament that will get underway on June 3rd at Iowa City.

Coach Laurie Eyre said, "I am very proud of Angela and Minna for winning the regional doubles championship to advance to state s second consecutive time after they placed eighth last year. The girls had a goal to do it again this year and achieved it. It wasn't easy. Minna had just been at an international science fair for a week and returned ill and had played no competitive tennis for 12 days. Angela was the backbone of the duo and helped her partner through to the end. However, when Angela needed support Minna was there for her. That is what makes an excellent doubles team."

Kenzie Wacknov ended up winning twice the regional singles competition last week at Pella before falling to the 2nd place girl from Centerville that qualified for state. The seniors that played for the varsity program this season were:

  • Holly Armstrong
  • Rose Hoffman
  • Raina Dollive
  • Angela Sickler
  • Kenzie Wacknov
