Maharishi School Girls Win Opener

By Carson Tigges, Ledger sports editor

After getting rained out at Saturday’s Fort Madison Invitational, the Maharishi School girls’ tennis team went inside to avoid Tuesday’s showers and finally got its season underway.

The Pioneers came up with an 8-1 victory over West Burlington inside the Maharishi University of Management Recreation Center Tuesday afternoon.

“It was a relief to finally get our first match of the season under our belt with a decisive victory, and the girls played with focus and heart,” said head coach Laurie Eyre.

Minna Mohammadi stepped into the No. 1 singles spot for Maharishi School and came up with an 8-1 victory. Pearl Sawhney, Camille Goodale, Paavani Kar and Flower Shreck also won singles matches. The Pioneers then swept through the three doubles matches.
