Maharishi School receives $32,000 Grant

Maharishi School recently received a highly competitive grant from Iowa Aim Empowerment, which is part of the Iowa Department of Management. Funding was made available by Iowa's First Years First public/private gifts and grants account. The First Years First grant received by Maharishi Preschool for $32,600 was one of six applications out of 25 to receive funding.

The grant was given to Maharishi Preschool to build our new Arbor Day certified Nature Explore Classroom, which will be a model outdoor classroom designed to connect children to nature. This play space will expose young children to nature-based learning, and teachers at Maharishi Preschool will share knowledge of outdoor education with other preschools, childcare centers, and parents throughout Iowa.

The purpose of this grant is to fund opportunities that create high quality model projects in early care, health, and education that better prepare our children for school readiness. Maharishi Preschool, in collaboration with many early childcare agencies including our local AIM Empowerment Board, ISU Extension, Child Care Resource & Referral, American Home Findings, Jefferson County Conservation Board, and the Arbor Day Foundation, will work together to provide more outdoor education to teachers in our area.
