Maharishi School Rolls Past Ottumwa

The Pioneers won the Highway 34 rivalry, defeating the Ottumwa Bulldogs 8-1. Maharishi's boys tallied decisive singles wins from Sam Stickels, Chandre Morales, Surya Sawhney, Dave Fleshman, and Girindra Selleck."It was a solid team effort in both singles and doubles, but I think it's worth noting that Surya Sawhney played his best match of the season. Surya's serve was unreturnable today," said Coach Briggs.

"In addition, the #1 doubles match was outstanding," Briggs said. "Clutch tennis from all four competitors." Both teams were a point from losing the first set. On the key points, it was Sam Stickels who elevated his game by stringing together three consecutive brilliant points to help the Pioneers clinch the tiebreaker, 8-6, after trailing 5-6. "Sam's game is coming together, " explained the Pioneers' coach. "Once again, Sam's saved his best tennis for May, which is great because that's when the important events come."
