Yesterday Maharishi School state tennis champs were paraded around the town and then celebrated at Henry Ogden Clark Auditorium with Lawrence Eyre, patriarch of the School's tennis program, Rig Gelfand, athletic director, Coach Steve Briggs, and Assistant Coach Luke Hillis. The team made Iowa history by representing the only school to win the "Triple Crown" for the third time, winning the state title for single, doubles and team tennis.

DES MOINES — California Chrome’s opportunity will come on Saturday in the Belmont Stakes.
Fairfield Maharishi's opportunity came on Tuesday at Waveland Courts in Des Moines in the Class 1A State Team Tennis Tournament.
It wasn't exactly a race to finish line for the Pioneers to complete the "triple crown" of Iowa High School Boys Tennis. It turned into more of a runaway gallop for MSAE as, just three days removed from winning the state singles and doubles titles in Class 1A, the Pioneers added the last piece of the championship sweep by rolling through two other quality programs at the State Team Tennis Tournament.
The Pioneers needed just 68 minutes to complete a 5-0 shutout of Boone in the state semifinals on Tuesday morning. After waiting for top-seeded Fort Dodge St. Edmond to complete a tougher 5-4 semifinal win over Decorah, a well-rested MSAE squad beat the Gales in the state finals, 5-2, to earn another day of celebration after an incredibly great season.
“Our seniors really came through for us,” MSAE head boys tennis coach Steve Briggs said. “Guys like Surya (Sawhney) and Solaris (Nite) really battled to earn singles wins (against St. Edmond). I’ve been playing tennis long enough to know it’s not easy to finish a match you want so very badly.”
“Surya finished like a pro. Solaris finished like a pro. Chandre (Morales) and Sam (Stickels) finished like pros. I can’t tell you how hard that is to do.” Read more>>
In celebration of the fifth boys’ tennis team state championship in school history, the Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment held a victory parade Wednesday in Fairfield.
The parade started at the Maharishi Fieldhouse and returned to the school, where a celebration with featured speakers was held. The Pioneers won their title Tuesday with victories over Boone and St. Edmonds Fort Dodge at the state finals in Waterloo.
