Nani Shreck Wins at Congressional Art Competition

Maharishi School sophomore Nani Shreck received honorable mention for a photo entitled “Flower” at the Congressional Art Competition on May 7. Nani was excited to meet Representative Dave Loebsack.

In the spring of every year, the United States House of Representatives hosts this competition to recognize talented young artists from across the nation. The winning student from each district is invited to Washington, DC for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and will have his or her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

The theme for the 2011 competition was “An Artistic Discovery” and was hosted by the University of Iowa. The competition took place at the Uof I Studio Arts Building in Iowa City. Over 140 works were displayed from schools in Iowa’s second congressional district.

The Maharishi School Art Department entered over 30 pieces from students in grades 7-12.
