Pioneer Boys Open Spring Tennis Season With Win

The Maharishi School’s boys tennis squad opened their 2016 campaign with a 7-2 victory over W. Burlington Notre Dame at Dankwardt Park Thursday afternoon. “Being the first match of the season, some of the boys were a bit tentative, but overall we performed well,” said Pioneer coach, Steve Briggs. "We have some new faces, some young players who are developing. If they work at it, we’ll be ready for another run come mid-May. Every year we set the same goal... bringing home a state title. We were close last year and most of our guys were part of that 2nd place team.”

The Pioneers face their stiffest test of the season on Saturday when they travel to Cedar Rapids to compete in the Warrior Challenge against some of the largest schools in Iowa: Des Moines Roosevelt, Cedar Rapids Washington, Davenport Central, and Cedar Rapids Kennedy. “We’ll know a lot more about our team by 4pm on Saturday,” said Coach Briggs. “There are a lot of schools in Iowa that have more boys on their tennis team than we have enrolled in our school, but we take great pride in our achievements."
