Pioneers Roll Past Fairfield

By Carson Tigges, Ledger sports editor | Apr 19, 2011

The Fairfield boys’ tennis team only had four players and was blanked by a seasoned Maharishi School team Monday afternoon.

In chilly conditions, the Pioneers surrendered just two games in a total of six matches. Girindra Selleck was able to steal a game from Sam Arsanjani at No. 1 singles and Matt McCan and Corey Haynes lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.

Derek Thatcher, Raphael Gelfand and Brenton Schwartz all won 6-0, 6-0 singles matches for MSAE. Thomas Weiss and Derek Thatcher also teamed up to win 6-0, 6-0 in doubles.

The dual was Maharishi School’s final preparation for a tough field at the Pella Invitational coming up Saturday. Next up for Fairfield is Thursday’s home match against Mount Pleasant.
