2007/2008 Achievements in Athletics

  • The Pioneer Boys Track team competed at the Bob Gerard Relays at Cardinal High School in Eldon, IA. Capturing the gold medal were the 4x800 meter team of Peter Arnold, Wesley Folz, Michael Dearborn and Lane Weaver. Also capturing gold were the 4x400 team of Jordan Stakland, Hagen Rainbow, Michael Dearborn and Lane Weaver. Other medalists were the 4x200 meter relay team in 3rd place consisting of Josh Posner, Jordan Stakland, Hagen Rainbow and Lane Weaver. The 800 individual medalist Ryan Stakland came in 3rd in that event and BoonGinn Loh took 4th place in the 100 meter dash.
  • The Pioneer Boys Golf team finished fourth in the Superconference Tournament, qualified for Districts with a third place finish and scored fourth out of eleven teams at District. John DeAngelis qualified for State individually and finished 13th out of 64 highly qualified players.
  • For the fourth straight season, the Maharishi School boys' tennis team came home with a top-three finish at the Class 1A state team tennis meet. Over the past 20 years, the Pioneers have gone to the "Final Four" of Class 1A tennis 11 times, never finishing worse then third. In that span, Maharishi School has won four state championships, and finished second on four occasions.
  • The National Federation of State High School Associations selected Maharishi School coach Lawrence Eyre to receive the 2007 Central Sectional Coach of the Year Award for the sport of boys tennis. The Central Section includes the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin.
