Achievements from 2011 - 2012 School Year

State Science Awards:

•  First place at the Iowa Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (IJSHS)
•  First place and an “Outstanding Achievement” award in the Senior Division at the Eastern Iowa Science & Engineering Fair
• First place in the Behavioral and Social Sciences Category and semifinalists for the International Science and Engineering Fair

Destination ImagiNation:

State Destination ImagiNation:

• Sub-State Tournament: 6 First place, 2 Third Place
• High school level team was honored with special “Renaissance Award” for “outstanding skill in the areas of design, engineering, execution or performance”

International Destination ImagiNation:

•  High school girls 7th place overall in science category

Iowa High School Speech Competition:

• Regional competition - 10 of 12 performances received highest ranking. Six of those teams placed first, and remaining teams placed third in their respective categories.
• All-State Speech Festival: 2 Performances selected: Choral Reading and Improvisation Team

Poetry:

• Honorable Mention, Lyric Iowa, The Iowa Poetry Association’s annual anthology

National MathCounts Competition:

• 5 Middle School students passed the school level MathCounts competition to qualify for the National Middle School Math Competition

Iowa State Boys Tennis Competition:

• Won tennis doubles and singles at Westfield Tennis Club Junior Christmas Classic
• Placed Fourth in Class 1A and tied a state record with team’s eighth consecutive trip to the final four
• Tennis doubles placed fourth at state
• Tennis singles placed fifth at state

Iowa State Girls Tennis Competition:

• Qualified for team state competition for the 13th time in Class 1A regionals
• Girls moved to the Elite Eight for the 13th time in our 22-year girls tennis history

Girls Track Team:

• New school record for Girls Long Jump at State Competition: 16 feet, 7 inches.

Golf:

•  Pioneer Golf won Fourth-Place Individual at District Match

Science

•  Iowa Science & Engineering Fairs: 43 state champions, multiple special awards
• Multiple National and International Awards at prestigious competitions including: International Intel Science and Engineering Fair, International Sustainable World Energy Engineering Environment Project Olympiad, National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, American Junior Academy of Science
• 2010 Robotics State Champion in first year of competition

Math

• Four times 1st Place in the American High School Math Exam
• 1st in Iowa, Mathematical Association of America

Destination ImagiNation (international creative problem-solving competition)

• 45 state champions, 3 Global Finals 1st Place winners, 27 other Top Ten awards, most wins in the state, 2000-2011

Speech (Drama)

• 17 state championships, tied for most wins in the state
•   2010: Critic’s Choice 1st Place for Solo Mime

Visual Arts

• 39 selected for Photography International Educational Association, 2001-2011
• 24 selected for the Iowa Congressional Art Competition and displayed in the US Capitol, 2001-2011
• 193 Iowa Super Conference Art Competition awards, 1993-2011

Poetry

•   2010: State Champion 1st Place from over 200 submissions
• 2011: Honorable Mention

Tennis

• 18 boys and girls state champions: 8 singles, 5 doubles, and 4 team; Triple Crown sweep
• 2009 United States Professional Tennis Association National High School Tennis Coach of the Year

Golf

• Two boys state champions (individual and team)

Track and Field

• Track and Field: Two boys state champions (long jump and 800 meters)

Soccer

• Boys' soccer: 2010 League Champions
