Daily Schedule for Boarding Students
  7:15 am Wake up. Morning routine from Maharishi Vedic Approach to Health.
  8:00 am Breakfast
  8:25 am Middle and Upper School students arrive for group practice of the Transcendental MeditationŽ program (or TM-SidhiŽ program if applicable).
  9:30 am Morning session begins.
  11:49 am Middle School students are dismissed for lunch.
  11:53 am Upper School students are dismissed for lunch.
  12:53 pm Afternoon session begins for Upper School.
  12:55 pm Afternoon session begins for Middle School.
  3:04 pm Middle and Upper School classes are dismissed, followed by group program
at 3:11 p.m.; the length of which varies depending on the student's program.
  4:10-5:00 pm Physical Education, and/or extracurricular activities such as speech or sports.
  5:00-6:45 pm Study Hall may be from 4:05--5:00 p.m. (followed by PE, Speech or sports) or study hall from 5-6:45 p.m. (depending on the student's schedule).

Students who have completed the Center Invincibility Course would have a modified daily schedule to accommodate their Research in Consciousness program.

On the weekends, boarders have structured activities that may include academics, extracurricular activities and/or field trips.

The Resident Supervisors are responsible for providing the nourishment and support that are essential to a residential program. They maintain the day-to-day running of the residence halls, supervise student activities, and communicate with parents. The Resident Supervisor lives in the dormitory and is responsible for any needed authorizations, maintaining residence hall rules, transportation to School sponsored events, and for upholding the coherent atmosphere of the building.

Senior students are chosen by Resident Supervisors to serve as Resident Advisors (RA's). Students are selected for their quality of life, citizenship, leadership abilities and commitment to the quality of the community. RAs work closely with the dorm staff to help create and support a positive sense of community life. They assist with the scheduling of sports and other extra-curricular activities that occur during the weekend, and special events for the residences.

Boys ResidenceA healthy dorm life depends on following the daily routine, which has been designed, to culture maximum personal growth. Students are expected to follow the guidance of the residence hall administrator and other faculty as well as respecting each other's integrity, personal property, privacy, and including the right to undisturbed sleep and study. The basic rule for dorm life is cooperation. Every student is expected to support the dorm rules as a contributing member of the residential community.


A dormitory room serves as a bedroom, a study area, and a dressing room. In order to use the space effectively, a certain degree of orderliness and organization is required. Electrical equipment such as hair care appliances, fans, radios, stereos, and computers are permitted with approval from the Resident Supervisor. No other electrical appliances are permitted. This would include: toasters, coffeepots/coffeemakers, hot pots, microwaves, candles, incense burners, space heaters, refrigerators, microwave ovens, and any other cooking or heating equipment, televisions, VCRs, DVDs, and halogen lamps. Irons may only be used in a specially designated area. A television and other entertainment equipment are provided in the common area. Any appliance(s) other than those approved will be removed.

Stereos and radios should not be audible outside of the room in which they are being used, and speakers may not be placed in, or directed out of windows. Headphones are recommended for use with audio equipment. Misuse of music, or listening to music containing sexually explicit or offensive lyrics will result in the loss of this privilege. No woofers or amplifiers are permitted.

A refundable $150 deposit is due when the resident moves in. Any damage done to the room in the course of the year will be paid for from that deposit. Parents will be notified if repairs exceed $75.

The School asks that students do not bring items of great monetary or personal value. The School assumes no responsibility for damage loss or theft of any item. Families are expected to include coverage of such items in their personal insurance policies. The School will help students in establishing checking accounts with a local bank if desired. Passports must be turned in to the Upper School office for safekeeping.

All students receive keys to their dormitory and/or room at the beginning of the year. Residents must keep their keys with them at all times. Lost or misplaced keys will be replaced at the resident's expense (a minimum charge of $10.00). Possession or use of any school key not assigned to the student is considered a major infraction.

The primary interest at the heart of residential life is the support of the personal growth of the students living in the residence halls. In this light, all resident students must be aware of the needs of others and be considerate of the residential atmosphere. Specific study hours are necessary for developing good study habits. Good organization and conscientious use of free time are necessary for academic success. Quiet time and homework time in the residence halls is designed to support and encourage students' academic efforts.

Study hall is designed to meet the varied needs of individual students. Residents will be expected to study quietly during this time. Telephone calls, movie viewing or computer games are not permitted in study hall, and the resident must have permission from the Resident Supervisor to study in other academic areas. Parents and friends are asked to avoid making calls to students during study hall.

If a student has completed homework assignments, he/she may visit with other residents, make and receive phone calls. No loud music is permitted. Students may only leave the building with the permission of the Resident Supervisor. At the time of room check (9:15 p.m.), students must be in their rooms for the night.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served each school day. Brunch and dinner are served on Saturday and Sunday. Students are expected to eat breakfast at their home campus; lunches and dinner are eaten in the dining hall assigned by the School. Well-balanced, nutritious, vegetarian meals are planned and prepared. The School expects residents to eat in a healthy manner and to attend all meals.

Appropriate dress and behavior are expected in the dining hall. Food, china and eating utensils may not be taken from the dining halls. Non-resident guests will be charged a nominal fee for their meals.

Residents may keep food in their rooms if it is stored in airtight containers. Food is not to be removed from the dining halls. Rides to local shopping centers are available for residents to purchase food and other supplies on a weekly basis.

All students must have American-based medical health insurance to cover the costs of additional health care needs. Parents will be billed directly by the service provider for expenses not covered by insurance. Parents are asked to keep the School informed of any changes in health insurance coverage. Parents should check with their insurance plans to make sure their policies will cover out of area expenses and what maximum benefits there are per claim. Families should schedule routine medical, dental and optical care during vacations at home.

Students must report any prescription medications/pre-existing medical conditions to the School. Students may not have over-the-counter or prescription medications in their possession without the approval of their Resident Supervisor.

If a resident student misses one class during the day due to illness, she/he may not leave the residence hall after school hours for any activity, including sports and extra-curricular activities.

Parents must call the School if the student becomes ill while home and is unable to return to School at the specified time.

Telephones and computers are permissible in students' rooms. Students are responsible for all expenses associated with telephone and Internet access and connections. The School assumes no responsibility for charges made to residents' phones by the use of phone calling cards or long distance carrier services contracted by the student. The School does not provide repair or installation services for telephones or computers. Resident students are expected to exercise responsible and ethical use of the privilege of having personal telephones and access to the Internet. Students who abuse the privilege of having personal telephone/network access may lose the service.

The School has an Internet content filtering system installed as is required by law.

Students departing for Thanksgiving vacation, the December Winter Holiday and Spring Break should schedule departing flights after 5:30 p.m. on the last day of school. Families must schedule their own transportation for the student to and from the airport to the School. Shuttle services are available. Students may not drive on or off campus, or store a car in a surrounding town to drive. A bicycle with a lock and helmet may be helpful.

Washers and dryers as well as a fire resistant area for ironing are available in the residence hall basement. To avoid lost items, residents are advised to label their possessions. Laundry supplies may be purchased locally. Dry cleaning or laundry service is available by arrangement through the Resident Supervisor.

A school van transports residents to local areas including grocery stores on Sundays. During the week, there is at least one after-school-shopping trip scheduled. A school van is also available to transport residents and faculty to and from special events.

Health and space considerations do not permit students to keep pets of any type in the residence facility.

Weekend activities such as field trips, camping trips, theater, sports etc. are organized by the School. Students are not permitted to arrange their own activities without permission of the School principal.

The rules of the residence hall are in place in order to provide safety and trust and to encourage personal responsibility in academic and social behavior


Room Inspections
 

Residents are responsible for maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of their rooms. Residents are required to clean their rooms thoroughly in preparation for the weekly inspection by the Resident Supervisor. Beds are to be made, surfaces dusted, floors vacuumed, wastebaskets emptied, leftover food and dirty dishes removed and cleaned, and all belongings neatly stored in appropriate areas.

Residents are responsible for the condition of their individual bathrooms, which are cleaned weekly by the housekeeping staff, after all articles are removed from sinks, window ledges, showers and floors.

Resident students and the Resident Supervisor are asked to sign a room inventory form when moving in at the beginning of the year and at the end of the school year. Any damage to the room during the year will be charged to the student or students responsible for the damage.

The resident supervisors may inspect any area of a room at any time in the interest of health and safety.


Evening Curfews, Sunday through Thursday
  All residential students are expected to be in their rooms with lights out by 9:30 p.m. Students must stay in their residence hall for the night and may not leave the residential facility before 7:00 am the following morning.

Residence Hall Infractions
 

The following are major infractions and will result in appropriate consequences; including and up to weekend restrictions or dismissal:

  • Leaving the residence hall after the 9:30 p.m. curfew.
  • Helping to arrange a dishonest authorization to leave.
  • Being in the residence hall room of a student of the opposite sex or inviting a member of the opposite sex into their room.
  • Having unapproved items such as candles, incense or other combustibles in the residence rooms.
  • Neglecting to notify the Resident Supervisor of changes in overnight plans.
  • Disturbing quiet hours by excessive noise.
  • Failure to be present for room checks.
  • Lack of compliance at the time of safety drills (evacuation/tornado).
  • Not observing lights out.
  • Not maintaining cleanliness standard of room.
  • Being out of one's room during the study hall, or after curfew, or without permission.
  • Disruptive, disrespectful or demeaning behaviors to others.
  • Failure to comply with faculty or Resident Supervisor instructions.
  • Use of drugs, alcohol or tobacco.

The School, on a limited but regular basis, provides transportation for errands and appointments. Boarding students are not permitted to drive any motor vehicles at any time.
