Sanskrit

All students from Kindergarten to 12th Grade learn Sanskrit, which is known as the mother of all languages. Beginning with the Sanskrit alphabet in Kindergarten, students progress to read the classical texts of Vedic Literature, such as the Bhagavad-Gita, in the original Devanagri script. They begin the study of Sanskrit grammar in Grade 10.

Scientific research has shown that during the reading or recitation of Sanskrit the functioning of the brain becomes highly orderly and coherent, enhancing the overall development of the student, the basis of effective and enjoyable learning. Pronouncing the sounds of the Vedic Literature enlivens balance and integration in the mind and body of the students.

This daily reading of Sanskrit, along with twice daily practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique, leads to more harmonious action and behavior during school hours.

Students read Sanskrit aloud for ten minutes at the beginning of the school day and enjoy the settling effect of the rhythms and sounds of this ancient language. It is also very settling and enjoyable for a visitor to come to a first class of the day and hear the students reading aloud in this beautiful language together.
