Girls Varsity Basketball Team begins season with exciting play.
MAHARISHI SCHOOL (FAIRFIELD) 71 - WAPELLO 50.
Maharishi School (2-0) defeated Wapello 71 - 50 in the first round of the SEI Superconference Tournament. The Pioneers will now face the winner of Burlington Notre Dame in the second game for the championship at Cardinal on Friday night. Maharishi School
led 37 to 17 at half time holding Wapello to 6 baskets. The Pioneers were in foul trouble in the 3rd quarter with one player fouling out and 2 starters with 4 each. Wapello made five 3 point shots in the 3rd quarter and cut the lead to 8. Substitutes
Alexandria Kurzen and Patty Henderson helped the team with some key defensive stops. Coach Higgins (MSAE) said, "We stayed aggressive and finished strong, outscoring Wapello 23-12 in the final quarter. Taylor Ross led the scoring with 27, Amellia Schuldt
had 16 with 4 for 4 from the 3 pointers, Sofia Iwobi with 15, and a career high 8 for freshman Ami Freeberg. Amelia was also in double digits with 11 rebounds, Sofia had 7 and Divindy Grant and Anna Tarnoff both finished with 5. Leaders in assist were
Sofia with 5, Taylor and Grace Boyle 4 each. Sofia finished with 8 steals and Amellia & Grace each had 3 each.
