Varsity Girls Basketball 12/12/02

Maharishi School (3-2) had the ball roll off the rim as the buzzer went off and Central Lee escaped with the 52-50 win. Central Lee jumped out to a 9-1 lead and maintained the lead at halftime 36-29. The Pioneers outscored the Lady Hawks 15 to 4 in the 3rd quarter to lead 44-40 after 3 quarters. The score went back and forth with Central Lee leading 52-48, the Pioneers stoled the ball to make it 52-50. After a Central Lee player missed the front end of a 1&1, the Pioneers pushed the ball up the court and just missed the lay-up!

Sofia Iwobi led all the scoring with 16 points along with 10 rebounds & 4 blocks; Amellia Schuldt had 15 points, all were 3 pointers, shooting 5 for 10 from the 3 point line; Taylor Ross finished with 12 points; Anna Tarnoff & Grace Boyle both had 2. Divindy Grant only had 1 point but played a strong defensive game with 4 rebounds and 2 steals.

Taking the defending conference champion to the last second, sets up a great rematch in January. Coach Higgins, Maharishi School, said, "Not being in foul trouble allowed us to play man to man defense. We can stop teams! We just held Central Lee to 4 points in the 3rd quarter!" Coach Higgins, added, "I was pleased with how our offense was more patient with balance scoring from outside and inside".

Maharishi School returns imediately to the court on Saturday against Marquette. The game starts at 6:30 followed by the boys game.
