Varsity Girls Basketball 01/10/03

MAHARISHI SCHOOL (Fairfield) 53 - PEKIN (Packwood) 50.
Maharishi School (6-3) / (2-2) even their conference record with a 53 - 50 win at Pekin. The Pioneers last played on December 20th and only shot 37% in the 1st half but led at half-time 30-29. Pioneers were able to extend the lead to 6 but scrappy Pekin kept cutting the lead down, but the Pioneers held on with smart ball handling and some key baskets down the stretch.

Sofia Iwobi led in scoring with 26 and 11 rebounds and 7 blocks. Taylor Ross put in 19 points and added a career high 7 steals. Divindy Grant went 3 for 3 and is becoming a force inside with 5 rebounds, Ami Freeberg grabbed 5 rebounds and put in a key basket with 90 seconds to go. And possibly a state record, 5 foot 2 inch Grace Boyle hustled for 7 rebounds.

Before the Pioneers play 2 conference games next week, they will travel tommorrow to 7th ranked (3a) Davenport Assumption. On Tuesday they will be at home against Harmony with a girl/boy double header starting at 6:30 pm.
