Varsity Girls Basketball 02/04/03 Stritch 50 Maharishi School 49

Maharishi School (10-8 / 5-4) last second shot did not fall and #2
Cardinal Stritch escaped with a home win 50 - 49. The Pioneers held a 6 point lead at half time and knew Stritch would start shooting 3 point shots. The Stritch team put in six 3 point shots in the second half but the Pioneers stayed right with them exchanging leads down to the last minute. After Geotz mad 1 out ot 2 free throws to put Stritch up by 1 point, the Pioneers were unable to score and Stritch
used their last time out. During the time out Coach Higgins (Maharishi
School) told his team, "Deny the inbound pass and go for the steal." Ami
Freeberg ended up on the floor forcing the Stritch player to touch the out
of bound line, giving the ball again to the Pioneers with 12 seconds to go.
The Pioneers had 2 tries for the win and just couldn't get the ball to
drop.

Taylor Ross had a solid overall game with 18 points, 5 assists, 4
rebounds and 2 steals. Freeberg scored a career high of 15 point, including
a 3 point shot in the 4th quarter to tie the game. Anna Tarnoff had 8
points and 4 rebounds and had intense defense pressure against Geotz. Sofia
Iwobi's stats included 8 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

Pioneers will finish the season with 3 conference games, starting with
Pekin on Friday at home. The game will begin at 7:30 pm.
