Maharishi School defeats Wapello 53-48 in an exciting and well played game.
Tuesday evening Maharishi School made some key baskets in the last minute and advance to the final in the season opening superconfernce tournament. They will play the winner of Cardinal and Notre Dame on Saturday evening at the Field House.
This game went down to the wire. The pioneers had a strong first half and went into the locker room with a 6 point lead. Outstanding in the first half was Woody Orne the 6'4" Freshman playing his first Varsity game. Woody ended up with 13 points the Pioneers' top scorer for the game.
The game was close in the 4th quarter when Wapello scored 3 unanswered baskets and went up 42 to 36. Will Carlisle then made 2 sweet jump shots to bring the Pioneers to within 2 Points. Then John Armstrong was fouled going to the basket with 1:09 left on the clock. He made the 2 key free throws and tied the score at 45. With less then a minute to play the pioneers got a key rebound and Noah Loin was fouled going down the court. He then made both ends of a one and one and the Pioneers were up 47-45 with half a minute to play. Again the Pioneers forced a turn over and again Noah was fouled and made both free throws.
The pioneers finished strong out scoring Wapello 17-5 in the last 2 and a half minutes.
A great win for the Pioneers and a special mention goes to Lucas Carter who was a demon on defence always putting pressure on the ball.
Next game is Saurday.
