Varsity Girls Basketball 12/05/03

MAHARISHI SCHOOL (Fairfield) 44
Cardinal 41

Maharishi School (3-0) had had an interesting contest Friday evening as they played Cardinal with out 4 of their regular starters. 2 were recovering from the flu and 2 are still recovering from injuries. However it was a great opportunity for some of the pioneers do something they have never done - play an entire varsity basketball game.

The Pioneers played a great game and did themselves proud.. They jumped out to a 11-2 lead and only lost the lead once at 31-32. The 4th quarter was especially exciting but the pioneers managed to maintain a 4 point advantage. Whenever Cardinal would get close the pioneers would come right back and make a basket.

With 3 minutes to play Maharishi School had a 3 point lead and they went into a ball control offense. Cardinal was eventually forced to foul and Grace Boyle made 2 key free throws to essentially secure the win. Cardinal did have the ball with 14 seconds left and down by 3, so a 3-pointer could have tied the score but solid Pioneer defense prevailed and Cardinal never could get a shot off.

Next game for the Varsity gilrs will be Tuesday at Aquinas.
