Academic Decathlon is a ten-event competition and the most prestigious high school academic team competition in the United States. Students are tested in
ten categories: Art, Economics, Essay, Interview, Language and Literature, Mathematics, Science, Music, Speech, and Super Quiz. Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals are awarded for individual events and total scores.
At the Regional Competition in March 2003, Maharishi School students placed 1st and 2nd overall in the Honors Division, 3rd overall in the Scholastic Division, and 2nd overall in the Varsity Division.
The Maharishi School Academic Decathlon team won many awards at the state competition at Denison, including first and third place top individual scores in the Honors category, small-school division. First-place went to Nicole Windenberger, a
sophomore, and third went to Grace Armstrong, a junior.
The team also includes Aurelien Windenberger, Nathan H., Corwin Brooks, Ron Khare, Chris Johnson, and Matthieu T. The students compete in one of three categories, determined by grade-point average, in ten challenging academic areas.
Matthieu, in Varsity Division, tied for 3rd place in math. Ron, Varsity Division, took 2nd place in the Super Quiz (philosophy, psychology and religion.)
Nathan, competing in the Scholastic Division, took 3rd place in economics. Aurelien, Honors Division, took 3rd place in math and economics. Grace, Honors Division, took 3rd place in speech, literature and Super Quiz; 2nd place in science and literature,
