KEOTA -- Sofia Iwobi
scored a season-high 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in leading
the Maharishi School girls' basketball team to a 62-54 victory over
Keota in a Class 1A Region 6 first-round district game Monday in
single-handedly brought the Pioneers back from a halftime deficit by
pumping in 24 of her points in the second half. Ami Freeberg added
12 points and Sheila Higgins 10 for the Pioneers (18-4), who will
face Moravia for the district championship Saturday in Bussey at 7
Keota (6-15) got 18 points
apiece from Kylie McArtor and Megan Frank.
The Eagles were hot in the
first quarter, scoring the first nine points of the game before the
Pioneers rallied to make it 10-8. Keota, however, still held a 26-22
advantage at halftime.
Iwobi began taking over in
the third quarter, as the Pioneers grabbed a 28-27 with two minutes
left for their first lead of the game.
