Pioneers second at state golf meet
    June 01, 2004
ANKENY--The Maharishi School boys' golf team shot a solid two-day total of 620 at the state golf meet at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny Friday and Saturday, but could not put a dent into an eight-stroke deficit after the first day.

Mason City Newman claimed the Class 1A title, shooting a 298 the first day to take an eight-shot lead on the Pioneers. Both shot 314 the second day.

Will Carlisle had a strong two days for the Pioneers, finishing fourth overall in the individual race. Carlisle, one of four Maharishi School seniors to make the state meet their last event, shot 74-73 for a 147, six strokes behind Sumner's Josh Krueger, who carded a 141.

Aaron Steinberger tied for 11th with a 156, while Dylan Rudney followed closely with a 158 to tie for 13th.

Danny Steinberg and Mani Mullenneaux each shot a 162 total to tie for 27th, while freshman Nick Juskewycz tied for 39th with his 167.

Newman was the only team in the tournament to shoot below 300 for a day. Both the champions and the Pioneers had the best second-day total, while Treynor, which began the second day just 13 strokes off the lead, shot 20 strokes worse the final day to go from third to a fourth-place tie. Adair-Casey was third with a 620.
