School boys' golf team shot a solid two-day total of 620 at the
state golf meet at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny Friday and
Saturday, but could not put a dent into an eight-stroke deficit
after the first day.
City Newman claimed the Class 1A title, shooting a 298 the first day
to take an eight-shot lead on the Pioneers. Both shot 314 the second
Will Carlisle had a strong
two days for the Pioneers, finishing fourth overall in the
individual race. Carlisle, one of four Maharishi School seniors to
make the state meet their last event, shot 74-73 for a 147, six
strokes behind Sumner's Josh Krueger, who carded a 141.
Aaron Steinberger tied for
11th with a 156, while Dylan Rudney followed closely with a 158 to
tie for 13th.
Danny Steinberg and Mani
Mullenneaux each shot a 162 total to tie for 27th, while freshman
Nick Juskewycz tied for 39th with his 167.
Newman was the only team in
the tournament to shoot below 300 for a day. Both the champions and
the Pioneers had the best second-day total, while Treynor, which
began the second day just 13 strokes off the lead, shot 20 strokes
worse the final day to go from third to a fourth-place tie.
Adair-Casey was third with a 620.
