Destination ImagiNation

5 Teams participated in the world competition in Nashville Tennessee May 24th-28th.

Destination ImagiNation Winners!

Maharishi School teams have come home victorious from Destination ImagiNation Global Finals, the world's largest creative problem solving competition. They placed 3rd, 4th, 5th and 11th in very keen competition with up to 70 teams in each category of challenge.

Global Finals hosted nearly 8,000 participants from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Korea, Guatemala, and the United Kingdom. The students presented original, creative solutions to challenges they'd been working on since the fall, utilizing theatrical skits, technical inventions, hand-built weight-bearing wood structures, and improvisational skills.

As a special honor, 3rd place winning Upper School boys' team received the coveted "Renaissance Award", given for exceptional engineering, performance and "awesome teamwork and cooperation." Their dynamic performance was an 8-minute "rap opera" featuring a moving turntable with spinning records and dials.

Tracy Lazo, principal of the American School of Guatemala who has been a judge at Global Finals, complemented the MSAE teams for consistently being "bright, creative and humble". She presented the Fluffy Coconuts, the 5th grade girls team, with handmade Guatemalan bracelets.

The event was as much a celebration as a competition. Creativity, camaraderie and thinking "outside the box" was lively in the costumes, judge and audience participation, and the "global" pin trading. Most inspiring was the resourcefulness of these bright students who relished new challenges and knew the secrets of good teamwork. DI's President, Robert Purifico, put it best: "I ask that you move forward to make the life of but one person better…never ever doubt the power of your problem-solving skills. In a world of daily complex challenges, you have never been fans of boundaries."

Congratulations to all of you, for what you've done and will do in the future.
