Varsity teams split with Pekin
The varsity boys won their fifth straight game, earning a 71-54 decision at Pekin Friday night. Maharishi School is now 5-1 and tied for first place in the SEI Superconference Southern Divsion, and 7-4 overall.

Zach Silverman led the Pioneers to a 38-21 halftime lead with 19 points in the first half, on his way to a game-high of 29 points. David Dannemann helped out with crisp passing and 12 points, several coming on lay-ups after stealing the ball. Michael Hauptman contributed 11 points and strong rebounding. The reserves also shined, entering early in the second quarter and increasing the lead against Pekin's first team.

The Pioneers held a 58-35 margin at the end of the third quarter, their largest of the game. After the Panthers rallied to within 60-49, consecutive three-point baskets by Willie Kern and Zach helped clinch the victory.

Earlier in the evening, the varsity girls fell to the Pekin girls 55-38. Jodie Dey led the Pioneers with 12 points and outstanding defense. Amellia Schuldt added 11 points and Anna Tarnoff contributed 6 points off the bench.

Both varsity squads play at Wayland WACO on Tuesday, January 15, with the girls' game beginning at 6:30 p.m. The boys are looking forward to avenging their only conference loss and keeping their winning
streak alive.
