Maharishi Pioneers put in good effort against Notre Dame

The Maharishi school Varsity Girls basketball team put up a good fight against an excellent shooting team from Burlington's Notre Dame. The final score was 47 to 35 for Notre Dame, however the Pioneers actually out scored its opponent in 3 of the 4 quarters. The Pioneers were up 10 to 6 at the end of the first quarter, having scored 6 unanswered points but Notre Dame hit a desperate 3 pointer with no time left on the clock. The Pioneers were then out scored by 16 points in the second quarter, where early season fatigue allowed Notre Dame to take advantage. Coach Higgins  however, was pleased with the play of his team and was busily studying the game tape the next morning to make the necessary adjustments for his next match which will be Friday, November 30th.

Taylor Ross led the Pioneers with a career high 18 points including a spectacular over the shoulder running lay-up. Amellia Schuldt continued her steady play with 10 points. The Pioneer record is now 1 and 1.

Pioneers fall to Notre Dame

BURLINGTON -- The Maharishi School girls' basketball team outscored host
Burlington Notre Dame in two quarters, and tied in another. Coach Brendan
Higgins would just as soon forget about the second quarter.

Notre Dame outscored the Pioneers 24-9 in the second frame to snap a 6-all tie after the first eight minutes. The streak allowed the Nikes to take a 47-35 win in the first round of the SEI Superconference tournament.

"That second quarter just killed us," Higgins said. "Fatigue caught up with us. We played well the rest of the game."
Taylor Ross' 18 points weren't enough to save the Pioneers, who fall to 1-1 on the season. Amellia Schuldt added 10 points and Jodi Dey had four blocks.

The Pioneers face Cardinal at Wapello Friday.
