  • Fairfield's 22-mile Recreational Trail System passes through forests, prairies, woodlands, wetlands, over bridges, and more. It's popular for walking, jogging, biking, and cross-country skiing in the winter.
  • Waterworks Park, adjacent to the MUM campus, has a fresh-water swimming lake with sandy beach, playground, shelter, picnic area, and restrooms. Ten other parks are located around Fairfield many with playground equipment.
  • Fairfield has two public recreation facilities: the MUM Rec Center and the Fairfield Rec Center. The MUM Rec Center is a 60,000-square-foot indoor facility, one of the largest indoor university sports facilities in the state of Iowa, and includes: a track, tennis courts, volleyball courts, basketball courts, a 28-foot rock climbing wall, weight room, gymnastics center, and ping-pong tables. The Fairfield Rec Center and Roosevelt Aquatic Center offer an indoor play space for children 5 and under, a weight room, raquetball courts, wallyball courts and several recreation rooms where classes are taught, an indoor pool, sauna and hot tub.
