Dear School Head:
I am writing this letter from one School
Head to another because I love America, and I am deeply concerned about
the future of our children and the education they are receiving to
prepare them to be the leaders of tomorrow.
Our hearts are still heavy from the
atrocities of September 11th, but now is the time to think how we can
prevent future attacks from occurring. It is clear that President Bush
has the overwhelming support of both the American people and our
coalition allies for a global war to eliminate terrorism.
However, experts on Islam warn that
despite the apparent success of the current military campaign, the
bombing of Afghanistan has fueled more hatred towards the United States
amongst extremists. This will inevitably lead to a vicious cycle of
mutual destruction between America and its enemies that could jeopardize
the very future of our children.
The history of the world shows that
punishing criminals– even putting them to death–has never put an end to
crime or terrorism. Has Israel ended terrorism against its people by
violent retaliation? Has any other nation ever done so?
Doing the same thing over and over again
and expecting a different result is how Einstein defined insanity. Is it
not insanity for our leaders to pursue a path of violence and
destruction–a path of proven failure–particularly when a peaceful,
proven solution to terrorism exists that they have repeatedly ignored?
How could this happen? Such folly reveals
a fatal flaw in our education system which is damaging to the life of
every student. Let me explain. The study of individual disciplines such
as physics, chemistry, history, music, etc., trains specific pathways in
the brain, but such study does not develop the whole brain
physiology. Without a means to fully develop the brain physiology even
graduates of so-called prestigious schools and universities (such as
Yale), are lacking in full creative intelligence.
This lack of complete education is the root cause of all problems in
life. It leaves even our best-educated leaders with a narrow vision,
unable to solve the crucial problems threatening mankind. They are even
unable to comprehend the significance of a profound new approach to
education which can free the world of terrorism and conflict.
This new approach incorporates the most
significant scientific discovery of our age–the unified field of natural
law. This fundamental level of nature, more powerful than the electronic
or nuclear levels, can be accessed by human awareness through simple,
natural technologies of consciousness. These technologies develop
holistic brain functioning, thereby eliminating the root cause of
violence and terrorism, and providing unprecedented benefits to the
individual and society.
Therefore, as educators responsible for
providing the best possible education for our children, we now have a
choice. We continue with an obsolete approach which fails to develop the
whole brain physiology, or we develop the total potential of the human
brain through "Consciousness-Based education”,
and create a peaceful, harmonious world.
What are technologies of
These ancient technologies of
consciousness–the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programs,
including Yogic Flying–brought to light by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, have
been validated by over 600 studies conducted at more than 200
universities and research institutes in more than 30 countries.
Studies show these technologies promote
the growth of holistic brain functioning, increased intelligence,
enhanced academic performance, decreased stress and anxiety, better
health, improved interpersonal relations, decreased antisocial behavior,
reduced drug and alcohol use, and fewer incidents of crime, violence,
At Maharishi School we have been using
these technologies of consciousness for over twenty-five years, and each
day I marvel at how our students excel. In addition to outstanding
academic and citizenship achievements, they have won hundreds of state,
national, and international competitions in science, mathematics,
creativity, art, speech, drama, music, poetry, literature, history,
photography, and sports.
Visitors to Maharishi School from around
the world invariably comment on the atmosphere of peace and dynamic
creativity that pervades the whole environment. Our students radiate
health and happiness, and they spontaneously behave toward others in a
nourishing, life-supporting manner.
For this reason, I strongly urge you to
include in your school curriculum a period of peace, during which
students experience the unified field of natural law as the inner
silence of their own self-referral consciousness, and as a result,
naturally radiate peace and harmony in the world.
I invite you to visit the following
websites for more information on Consciousness-Based education and its
I am also pleased to inform you that
peace-loving individuals around the world have recently inaugurated the
Global Country of World Peace, and are taking action now to establish a
permanent group of 40,000 experts in these technologies of consciousness
in India and 8,000 vedic flyers in the United States and Maharishi Vedic
City in Iowa. According to extensive research these groups will create a
powerful and permanent upsurge of coherence in world consciousness,
dramatically decreasing the incidence of terrorism and war.
Please call me if you have any questions
or if I may be of any assistance in introducing Consciousness-Based educationSM into your school. Together we can ensure that
all children develop their total brain potential, and fulfill their
birthright of enjoying fullness of life and unrestricted progress in a
peaceful, harmonious world.
