Maharishi School student awarded full-ride college scholarship worth $160,000

The Fairfield Ledger, December 13, 2006

Suzannah Schindler of Fairfield is one of only 102 students to receive a full-ride scholarship from the College Match.

The College Match, a national program that awards grants to top American colleges, has selected Maharishi School's Suzannah Schindler as one of 102 recipients of its most prestigious prize from a pool of thousands of applicants from around the country.

Schindler will be guaranteed a four-year scholarship worth more than $160,000 covering tuition, room and board at Wellesley College next year. She was chosen out of a national applicant pool of 3,346 students from every state in the United States.

Schindler has been a standout student at Maharishi School. She has won numerous awards at school for her scholastic achievement and also is a member of the volleyball team. In an Odyssey of the Mind competition, she finished first in the state. In a Destination Imagination competition, she finished first in the world.

To win the four-year scholarship from College Match, Schindler had to fill out a 20-page application that included three essays and a parade of short answer questions by Oct. 1. The College Match is administered by QuestBridge, a foundation in Palo Alto, Calif., that matches talented low-income students with elite colleges.

"Suzannah embodied the ideals of a College Match student," said Tim Brady, QuestBridge's CEO. "She's passionate. She's public service minded. She will do great things at Wellesley College."

At Wellesley College, Schindler is planning to pursue interests in Liberal Arts and the Sciences.
She is the daughter of Rich and June Schindler of Fairfield.
