Pledge of Service Program

An Honored Tradition

Our School has been, and continues to be, an inspiration to the whole world. That is due, in large part, to the volunteering efforts of all our parents throughout our history helping to create some amazing programs for our students—everything from the final construction of Hopson Hall in 1989 to the creation of our Nature Explore Classroom and Seed-to-Plate demonstration kitchen in recent years. Our parents have contributed their energy, their passion, their expertise. We thank you for your constant care of our School.

Now, more than ever, we need to build on this 30-year tradition of parent service to sustain our School and grow it in the future with a new system renewing an honored tradition.

Q: What is the New System?

It will be known as our “Pledge of Service” program. With this new service system there is only one set of hours, just 20 per family per year. We are asking every family to give 20 hours of service this school year in areas of your interest and expertise.

Q. Just for Maharishi School?

No, also to benefit our supporting institutions: the Dharma Foundation and the David Lynch Foundation.

Q. What about the Dharma Foundation? Do I still have hours with them as well as these new hours?

With this new volunteer system there is only one set of hours. The Dharma Foundation has provided crucial financial support for our families with direct donations and fundraising activities that maintain the community’s awareness of the need for financial help for Maharishi School. They will continue to need volunteer help. Noelle Boucherle will work in close collaboration with the Dharma Foundation Event Coordinator and schedule some of your hours for their annual fundraising events.

Q. What will I do?

What you’re good at, what you enjoy. We want to match people and their passions with the progress needed at our School. We have so many areas that will benefit from your time, energy, and unique talents: IT, landscaping, mentoring, event organization, marketing, and so many more.

Q. How can I get started?

Over the next week, Noelle will be contacting each of you for information about your skills, interests, and expertise. She’ll be able to answer any questions you may have about the new Pledge of Service program. If you already have an idea about how you would like to fulfill your 20-hour commitment, please call Noelle directly at 641-472-9400, ext. #5076, or email: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Q. What if our family doesn’t complete 20 hours this year?

We understand that sometimes unexpected situations occur. With this new service system there is only one set of hours, just the 20 per family per year. We expect everyone to contribute in this way to the progress of our School. If, for some reason, a family doesn’t fulfill their hours this year, we will roll them over to next year.

Q. Who tracks my hours?

Noelle Boucherle. Once you have started, you should report your hours to her: 641-472-9400, ext. #5076, or email, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Thank you parents, for all that you’ve done for our School and for your support of this Pledge of Service. We value each one of you. We want and need each of you to perpetuate the spirit of volunteerism that built our school. Together, we’ll see that the future continues to sparkle for Maharishi School and our beautiful children.
